I just got the Note 2 from Newegg (for verizon) and after reading through a lot of the threads on this forum like:

I guess there's issues with the OTA verizon pushed out and the first guide won't work if you have the OTA. Well long story short, how can I tell for sure if the phone I've received had the latest updates put on it before I got it?

My build says VRALJB, does that mean I'm good and I still have the older version? Would it say VRALL4 if the OTA had been applied?

In a related question, would it be wise to simply update to VRALL4 now, use the new method to jailbreak, and then continue on my merry way? Would this alleviate any worries of the OTA getting applied and breaking my root / possibly bricking my phone??

Thanks for any help for a noob. I tried to do research first!

Hi there peeps....

I don't post very much because I usually google my way to everything I need to know... but every google I've tried leads me to dead ends on this one!

There are many ROM's out there with AVRCP v1.3 bluetooth. Much respect to those developers!
I have a Kenwood car stereo and it displays Track/Artist/Album information when using Vanilla RootBox/AllianceROM/CM10 etc etc

But, the one ROM which I really love does not support this, MIUI. Every variation I have tried only streams the audio, no track info.
I have tried replacing all bluetooth related files from a known working ROM into the most recent MIUI (of the same Android version) but it just breaks the functionality all together. With Alliance ROM I noticed a service "Samsung AVRCP" when I backed it up using Titanium, I suspect this has something to do with it.

I'm no developer myself but I do have some programming experience (not android though) so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

So...

Q: How does one implement AVRCP v1.3 (or higher) into a ROM?

I have FINALLY accessed and utilized NATIVE SIP functionality on the stock ROM! Here is how...

First, you need to download Launcher Pro Plus (go to 4 Shared and find the app). Once downloaded, longpress on your homescreen and chose "Shortcuts", then "Activities", then "Phone', then scroll down to the "Sip Settings" listing (which accesses com.android.phone.sip.SipSettings). Click on it and it will make a shortcut on your homescreen. Voila! You now have a full SIP Menu to utilize from your stock ROM! Below the Sip Settings option are two others under the listing "Phone", which access com.android.phone.sip.SipEditor, and com.android.phone.SipCallOptionHandler. Hope this helps everyone out. I poured through line after line of code only to realize the answer was under my nose the whole time!

{{{NOTE: The two options in red do not open up to any menus, but the first one in green is a GO}}} FYI, I don't even think you need to be rooted to do this.

Also, there are settings to mess around with the SIM lock and SIM PIN, carrier settings, and other functions and menus that I always see in the system apps but can never seem to access. A lot of these shortcuts open up to user interface menus. Awesome!

And props to Arrrghhh, you indeed were correct in assuming that it was the carrier that probably limits access to SIP options. However, it seems that it is not actually removed from the build, only the option is removed from the Call Settings Menu. Check it, once you access the SIP Menu, press the scroll back button in the very top left-hand corner of the page. It'll drop you back off at call settings. Is there a way to possibly edit the actual Phone.apk or Settings.apk, that one may replace the SIP option back in the menu??? Hit me up.

There are so many different versions, but I can not find one that has no FC if changeing the presets. Rest seems to be working fine.
The version I used to have in XELLA and earlier seems not to be working anymore. It does not FC but has no effect at all.

Use packet data?

Looking all over the net...I'm confused about checking this option or not. Some people say that you cannot access the internet if this is not checked, but this is not true. Mine is not checked and everything works fine. 4G and everything. Should I check this and why or why not?

Trying to install Cyanogen, can't even get to unlocking the phone

So the steps on how to install Cyanogen mod are very difficult. I find myself back-tracking all the time.
You can't just simply start there, first you have to unlock your phone, right?
Then root it? Then install Cyanogen mod, but in between all of that you have to install the Nexus 4 toolkit, which i did, and it says that it's unable to find my drivers.
I've done so much to fix this but it's fruitless. I've uninstalled my drivers, turned my computer (I have windows 8) back on so it'll re-install them, got the LG drivers pack, went to the XDA forums were they gave me the right link to download more drivers, still nothing. I saw were i can download gingerbreak on my phone without the hassle of a computer but i wanted to ask the community if that was okay.
I'm just tired of trying to find the problem, I spent a good 6 hours last night just trying to install the drivers and nothing happened. I need help.

My tablet's power button wont work?

Hello c: I have an HKC 7" Capacitive Touchscreen Tablet and just last night it was fine, but i woke up and it wouldn't turn on unless i plugged it in. It wasnt dead, it had an 80% charge. And it wont turn off by the power button either, i have to just let it sit, untouched for like 10-15 minutes before it will turn off. 0.o Whats wrong with it? What do I do? Please help, i havent had this tablet long. :'c By The way, this is the tablet:

Elonex eTouch 1000ET sort of bricked & need to root it.

I have an Elonex ET1000-ET 10" tablet, it went totally brick last year and I have managed to successfully download and install the latest (2.2) version of Android available for it from Elonex.
However this install has a hosts file that contains many entries for Google websites, net effect is that I am unable to set up GMail and Play-Store/Android-Market.
They fail to get through the Google login/signin process.
Other stuff works fine, yahoo e-mail, BBC websites, etc.

I've looked up on the net about the Google specific signon issue and know I need to root the device to be able to edit the hosts file, but I can't download apps from the store.
This particular model of eTouch does not appear as a drive on my Vista Laptop when linked via USB cable and I'm unable to run anything useful on either device to talk in any way. It does not have bluetooth and does not appear as a device on wi-fi, it just talks to my router.

The only avenue I seem to have is to place file(s) onto a micro-SD card on the laptop and then physically pop the micro-SD card into the Elonex.

So helpful advice please on just how I can manage to root the Elonex while being unable to communicate with it except direct from non-google websites or via micro-SD card file transfer.

Why do you need hard storage on your phone ex. anything over 16gbs?

Cloud storage requires a data connection, which isn't always fast nor available, and which can also cost extra money if you have a limited data plan (which is becoming the norm) and exceed your monthly limit. Also, music quality may be decreased if streaming over a slow connection, or if you're trying to save bandwidth. If you use your phone heavily for music or photography, it's nice to have that media stored locally so you can access it quickly and for free.

On top of that, mobile games are getting bigger and better. Games like Asphalt 7 and Shadowgun take up at least 1GB of storage, so if you're heavily into games, you're going to need more onboard storage.

Superuser installed, No Root Access

Hello androidcentral members,

It seems that I accidentally changed the ownership of the su file to "system, sdcard_rw" and now I have no way to change it back to "root, root". Everything was working fine beforehand. Any suggestions on how to fix the su file? I have already attempted to reroot using the same way I originally rooted the device and hard reset with no luck.
