[General] Help! Dropped Phone, Screen Not Working

Help! Dropped Phone, Screen Not Working

Hi guys,

I dropped my Note 2 yesterday and the power button got punctured in and the screen started turning blue. This morning, the screen completely got filled with blue/white/messed up color, and then went completely black. Touchscreen still worked though because I was able to maneuver around the phone right after it was dropped. Screen was not cracked.

Besides the power button needing replaced, does anyone know if the screen has to be replaced as well? I'm not sure how a puncture into the power button would cause the screen to die out completely..

[General] Gallery does not show pictures I transferred to phone

Gallery does not show pictures I transferred to phone

Basically, when I got my S4 I transferred pictures from my computer to the phone under pictures so that I can use them as my wallpaper. The album showed up in the gallery and all was well, but whenever I transfer new pictures into said folder, the pictures are not updated in the phone gallery. I deleted the album in my gallery and the pictures off my phone in hopes that all of the new pictures will show up if I transfer the pictures again from my computer to my phone. Now the album isn't even shown in the gallery. I've selected the option to show all content on the device but the album is still not showing. Any idea why?

Thanks.

[General] Galaxy S2 Stuck in Boot Loop after ROM Flash (ODIN)?

Galaxy S2 Stuck in Boot Loop after ROM Flash (ODIN)?

I have a Tmobile Galaxy S2 (SGH-T989) that's now more or less a paperweight. I'm all out of ideas to fix it, so I was hoping to get some answers here.

The problem started yesterday afternoon when I seen I wasn't receiving signal (a "no smoking" like symbol where the signal bars are), and ended up calling Tmobile customer service last night with still no signal. I was told that there was a problem with the network and I would be contacted by an engineer in a few days; but, just to be sure I was told to remove my SIM card, reinsert it, etc., and after doing so the phone couldn't read the SIM, saying one wasn't inserted (it was). I called Tmobile back with this issue and was told to reset my phone and the representative said to call back if there were any more issues. After resetting my phone I was left with only a black scree and working notification bar (no lock screen, icons, etc.), so I can only turn WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Screen Rotation on/off. Being it was 10pm and I had to get up for work, I didn't call Tmobile back. Since getting off today I've been troubleshooting to no avail.

I researched the black screen issue on Goggle and found that manually flashing the ROM with ODIN would fix it (the phone came with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and the flash would upgrade to 4.1.2). I followed the directions for flashing explicitly; waiting until reboot to unplug the USB with ODIN saying "PASS" and successful. After doing this I've been stuck in constant boot loop with a window saying "Android Upgrading... optimizing apps 0-73," but after reaching 73 it does this all over again and I'm not able to get past it. I also tried reflashing with ODIN again as instructed.
I troubleshooted this issue and found that doing a data/factory reset and wiping the cache should fix it. I done this and I'm still stuck in the boot loop with the "optimizing apps 0-73." I tried just a data/factory reset again, but the problem's still there.

My boyfriend bought this phone a month and a half ago from Wal-Mart with 2yr. contract. He didn't like it and gave it to me, but he didn't purchase an insurance plan and the 2 weeks warranty had expired. I was hoping someone could give me an answer on how I could fix this and not have to pay a repair fee to Tmobile (I really don't have the extra cash right now, but need a phone for work). Is this something we can fix, or is it beyond our ability?

Any and all help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

[General] Gmail For Kids?

Gmail For Kids?

Yes, that's the correct Kid's Place app (the link was embedded in my previous post). When you install it on the device, you can then launch it and set it up. You'll be asked to pick a PIN for parental control, and then you can select what apps/games to display in the launcher for your kid. There a bunch of other options as well, such as preventing in-app purchases. Once you launch Kid's Place, it will remain active until you exit out of it using your parental PIN, even if you press the power button to put the device to sleep.

You don't really need to create a Google account for your kids. You can control what apps you install for them using your own Google account. Just because you've installed the apps on the kids' device using your Google account doesn't mean they're going to show up automatically on your own phone.

[General] Question regarding Samsung Warranty security

Question regarding Samsung Warranty security

Hi, recently i tried to root my phone, but it came out to be a disastrous failure.
The phone doesn't turn on, neither does it go into boot mode or download mode.
However, I just contacted Samsung, and they said that I still have warranty under my phone.
The problem is, I'm afraid that Samsung might void my Warranty because it has been rooted.
But, i don't know if you can say that my phone was "rooted" because I failed the first step.
After i loaded ' VRALEC.bootchain'(through Odin), the phone went completely black and couldn't be recognized by the computer.
Will Samsung be able to see that I messed with the phone? And also, what's the chance that my warranty would be voided?

Thank You,
RainbowFlamingo.

[General] Mute all except certain contacts

Mute all except certain contacts

Hello I was wondering if there is a way to mute all apps and contacts besides a select few or one. Preferably with an easy way to toggle. Like an "important contacts" list or something. For instance if one wanted to go to sleep and thus not be woken up unless it is by a certain person who may need to get a hold of them. Thank you for your time.

Android 4.1.2
HTC One
Sense 5 with Nova Prime Launcher

PS: If anyone also knows how to make widgets reach the sides in Nova Launcer, I have been wondering that also (turned all margins to none).
